SONORAN COUES DEER

While Whitetail and Mule Deer are prized for their size and majesty, the smaller Coues Deer are preferred for their elusiveness and beauty. With their seeming ability to vanish into thin air, they are often referred to as “the Gray Ghost.” Mexico Outfitters hunts Coues in heavy brush areas of the lower elevations of Sonora, Mexico. Shy and elusive (some hunters might call them sneaky), Coues Deer spend much of their time in heavy cover, slipping out of the thick brush around midday to find water. Coues are most often hunted by stalking and glassing, and are often taken with long-range shots. We also hunt from cover near watering holes and often attract them with piles of orange peels.
